The bulk of the building extension work is drawing to a close with just a few items yet to be completed. The floor polishing in the main auditorium will take place in the first week of May - it's the earliest time the tradesmen are available. Leading up to that time the mens bathroom will be completed, the disabled bathoom will have handrails etc installed, the painters will finish their work, a double glazed window (about 3 times larger than the current opening) will be completed for the cry room, and the gas pipe will be installed to the new heating unit servicing the auditorium area. Apart from the works to be completed by the builder, we still have some other works to completed before the project is finalised. These additional items include landscaping, additional car parking spaces, installing and setting up the A.V. equipment, and having a fire hydrant installed out by the roadside. A group of brethren are planning to hold an open day to invite the community into our building during June or July, so we need to have everything completed prior to that event. I need to have some volunteers (4-6 brethren) to take on the lanscaping works, with an individual to take charge of that part of the project. Please conact Steve today (or in the next few days) if you are willing to serve the congregation on this project. I will contact the builder early this week to arrange for removal of the rubble so the landscaping can begin. I will also need a couple of brethren to help set up the A.V. equipment with someone to take charge of that project, so again, please contact Steve today or in the next few days to get involved in this work. I will lead the car park project and will need 2-3 volunteers to assist. I have arranged to borrow a small excavator (or bobcat) to do the main earthworks, but we will need to do the finishing with shovels and rakes etc. and possibly remove one tree. I will arrange a contractor to take care of the kerb and channel work, and will investigate having the area asphalted, but if that proves too expensive then we'll spread crushed rock for the time being. I estimate we will have around 10-12 cubic metres of soil from the car park excavation work, so if you know of someone looking for clean fill please let me know ASAP so we can arrange to dispose of the soil. As you will understand, the actual building work is almost done but there's still much work to do before the entire project is finalised, and much of the remaining work falls to us (brethren of BRCOC) to complete. I can't do it alone, so I encourage each of you to involve yourselves in this project over the next 4-6 weeks to bring it to a successful conclusion. Brothers and sisters, I look forward to your your offers of assistance. |
