The process of selecting and appointing new shepherds is underway. In this process of raising questions, concerns and endorsements – what are we really looking for? In general we know the answer and it applies as much to new shepherds as it does to existing shepherds. We are looking for men who will lead, guide, correct and protect us. To be examples of Godliness before us. But, specifically, we may not know, not be ready for the kind of leadership found in genuine Biblical shepherding.

SO....are we:

  1. Eager to receive instruction and correction from our shepherds?
  2. Ready to share with our shepherds our hope, fears, weaknesses, temptations and sins?
  3. Willing to spend the time necessary to really KNOW and TRUST our shepherds?
  4. Aware of what it means to "submit" to being shepherded by our shepherds?
  5. Committed to assuming responsibilities and roles thus allowing our shepherds the time and energy to function as real shepherds rather than just being "decision makers' or church CEO'S ?
  6. Supporting our shepherds in their daily walk with God, refusing to be a "thorn in the flesh?

In short, are we willing to let the shepherds into the depths of our lives so that they, as Paul wrote in Col. 2:28, ".....may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus."?

Hebrews 13:17 says: "Obey those who rule over you and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you."

So...What Do I Really Want? Am I Willing To Pay The Price? Will I Go My Way, Or God's????
